Why go

Gently shelving bay about 35 km north of Batticaloa town, calm enough to walk far out at low tide. Reach by bus or tuk-tuk from Batticaloa or Valaichchenai; peak season May-September. Resort sunbeds cost extra; public stretches near the fishing end are free and quieter.

Best for

Families and floaters; famously shallow turquoise bay

Good to know

Batticaloa District, Eastern Province. Pair this stop with nearby places in the directory or find it pinned on the map.

Watch outs

Prices, hours and access rules change — confirm locally and treat anything undated as a lead, not a promise. Common island-wide traps (overcharging, steering, ticket games) are listed on its destination page.

Things to do

Beaches are free. Sunbeds run a few hundred LKR if you order a drink; surfboard rental roughly LKR 1,000–2,500/hr and lessons LKR 4,000–8,000 (Oct 2026 typicals — confirm locally).

Culture to know before you go

Nude or topless bathing is illegal and offensive. Ask before photographing fishermen, vendors or families. Leave no plastic — turtles nest on several of these beaches.
